Spec Kitty Creator Robert Douglass to Present “Spec Driven Development with Spec Kitty” at FrOSCon 2026

Redding, CA – August 19, 2026 – Spec Kitty announced that Robert Douglass, creator of Spec Kitty, presented “Spec Driven Development with Spec Kitty” at FrOSCon 2026 on August 16, 2026. The session took place from 13:45 to 14:45 in HS 5 and introduced software teams to spec-driven development as a practical approach for working with AI coding agents.

FrOSCon is an open source software conference featuring sessions, speakers, and live streams for developers, technologists, and open source communities. Douglass’s session focused on the growing gap between human intent and agent-generated software output, especially as teams begin using AI coding agents on legacy codebases, complex systems, and restricted or regulated environments.

The talk introduced spec-driven development as a methodology where clear, executable specifications become the guiding structure for implementation. As AI agents become more common in software development, teams need better ways to reduce ambiguity, shift review earlier in the process, and maintain confidence in what eventually ships.

Spec Kitty supports this approach through a spec-driven workflow that helps teams define intent, create implementation guidance, develop governance Doctrine, and coordinate agentic development loops. The framework is designed to help developers and engineering teams guide AI coding agents with clearer specifications, better constraints, and reviewable outputs.

“Agents are becoming part of software development, but teams still need a way to keep intent connected to implementation,” said Robert Douglass, creator of Spec Kitty. “Spec-driven development gives teams a clearer structure for guiding agents, reviewing output, and deciding what is safe to ship.”

The FrOSCon session also addressed practical limitations teams face when applying AI coding agents to old code, complex code, and environments with regulatory or access constraints. Douglass discussed how software teams can create specifications that guide implementation, define governance Doctrine that keeps agents aligned, direct human intelligence into earlier development decisions, and safely start agentic loops that may run for hours or days.

Spec Kitty is an MIT-licensed Python CLI and spec-driven development framework for AI coding agents. During the session, Douglass shared live examples of how Spec Kitty is being used by solo developers and larger organizations, including companies launching critical software initiatives.

The presentation reinforces Spec Kitty’s role in helping teams move from prompt-based experimentation to structured, governed AI-assisted software development. By anchoring work in specifications, Doctrine, review criteria, and acceptance decisions, Spec Kitty helps teams preserve intent while working with AI coding agents across real software delivery environments.

About Spec Kitty

Spec Kitty is a software development platform built around spec-driven workflows for AI-assisted engineering teams. The platform helps teams define intent, plan work, coordinate AI coding agents, track reviews, preserve decisions, and maintain project memory from specification to merge.
