# About Spec Kitty | How it started and the five co-founders

## We started Spec Kitty after one question stopped a workshop.

## How it started

In our first workshop, Spec Kitty asked the room one question before anyone wrote code: red button or blue button? Within minutes the developers, the product owner and the CEO were working out what they were building at all. Nobody had written the answer down. An agent would have picked one and carried on.

We left sure of one thing. Agents can write the code, but deciding what it should do is work for people, and those people need a good way to do it.

## Why this team

Between us we have lived through new ways of building software before: developer platforms at Platform.sh and Acquia, engineering operations at GitHub, agile practice at Red Hat, 25 years of building large engineering teams, and a PhD in multi-agent systems. The teams that came through well gave people a clear way to decide, and made sure everyone who built worked from what was decided. Now coding agents build too, and they need the same.
